While on set recently for a photo shoot @RománSalonLA, we spent a few minutes with Sheri Román, master colorist, Román Salon owner, Los Angeles native and mother of two. For two decades, Román built her reputation as a hair color expert in Los Angeles by providing clients with exceptional service and hair color treatments. Her press includes praise in Vogue, Elle, Allure, W, InStyle, Harper’s Bazaar, Glamour, American Salon, Cosmopolitan and Daily Candy for her miraculous hair color transformations and earned the reputation of best colorist Los Angeles.

Her passion for artistry, combined with her ability to mimic the look of hair lightened by the sun, has made Román the hair colorist for Los Angeles A-listers, top models, celebrities and Los Angeles locals alike. Román is equally in demand with out of state clients, who often travel coast-to-coast for a personal appointment with Román.

Here is an excerpt from our conversation.

Q: What’s your hometown?

A: Venice, CA.

Q: What do you think makes a person fabulous?

A: Confidence.

Q: Finish this sentence, I am a…?

A: BUSY WOMAN! My kids call me supermom.

Q: What moments on the job are most rewarding?

A: I feel fortunate to have personal relationships with my clients that grow and change over the years. It’s so rewarding to be a part of a person’s extended family. I feel like I’m a part of my client’s journey when I see how their hair color changes from photos they share with me throughout the years.

Q: What comes to mind when you think of Román Salon West Hollywood?

A: I think of harmony. My goal was to create a space that felt comfortable for both my team and our clients.

Q: Favorite beauty product?

The Gelee Cleanser from the Epicuren Skincare line. Anything made by this company is fantastic! One of my cherished treasures is time. Time with my husband, family and friends, is maximized by minimizing time spent on my beauty routine.

Q: Favorite scent?

A: Jo Malone, Red Roses. It has a light fragrance that is not overpowering.

Q: After two kids, how do you maintain your energy and great shape?

It’s all thanks to Barry Swaffar at Train in West Hollywood. Barry has kicked my butt through two pregnancies.

Q: If you weren’t a hair colorist, you’d be…?

A: A chef…I wish I had more time to try recipes, but I usually only experiment on Sundays. I love incorporating ingredients from my garden and I am always swapping recipes with clients! In fact, my favorite shopping indulgence is a trip to Sur La Table!

Q:Favorite indulgence?

Charbonnel et Walker. Pink Champagne Truffles. Simply delicious.

Q: What are you obsessed with ?

A: Other than beautiful, healthy, natural-looking hair color, I am obsessed with the Apple Lemon Triple Ginger Juice from Beverly Hills Juice Club. I have been a loyal customer since 1990, before juicing was cool!

Q: What is one thing that most people wouldn’t know about you?
A: I have been riding dirt bikes since I was five years old.

Q: What is your favorite quote?

The Giving Tree

A: I have always believed that, “People come into our lives for a reason, a season or a lifetime.”

Q: With two kids, you must read many books. What is your favorite book?

The Giving Tree. It is also my favorite book to give as a birthday gift.

Q: If you could close your eyes and be anywhere, where would you be?

A: Anywhere near the water, whether it’s at the lake or on the beach. I have always been a water baby. When I am by the water I feel an instant sense of calmness.

Q: Favorite LA Restaurant?

Pacos Tacos

Pacos Tacos. The carnitas tacos on homemade tortillas and of course, a margarita on the rocks are to die for. Anyone visiting Los Angeles must try this restaurant!

Q: Favorite holiday?

Halloween. I enjoy the time spent with family and friends and love everything from the smell of spiced of apple cider and the look on kids’ faces when they go trick-or-treating.
